Mt. Rainer Scenic Railroad

Full Steam Ahead
To bring the world of Christmas With The Clauses to life, the experience was designed as a layered environment where storytelling, sound, and physical space worked together to immerse guests in the narrative.
One of the foundational elements of the experience was the development of a site-wide environmental audio system for the depot. This system allowed the space to function as a narrative stage, blending music, narration, and atmospheric sound design to establish the world and tone of the experience as guests arrived.
Building on this system, I designed and edited a semi-automated audio show that served as the narrative backbone of the environment. The show combined storytelling, holiday music, and sound effects to introduce guests to the Claus family and their magical railway operations. Carefully timed audio cues helped guide the rhythm of the experience and build anticipation leading up to the train departure.
Environmental design played an equally important role in shaping the guest experience. Working closely with scenic teams, we transformed the depot into a festive holiday village filled with North Pole-inspired set pieces and story-driven design details. Each installation was placed strategically to create a cohesive narrative environment that encouraged exploration and interaction.
One of the centerpiece moments of the experience was a large-scale interactive photo installation featuring a life-size steam engine. Rather than a simple photo opportunity, the installation was designed to feel like a themed attraction moment. Lighting, scenic elements, and environmental storytelling turned the locomotive into a magical focal point within the world of the Claus family’s railway operations.
This attraction-style installation quickly became one of the most popular guest engagement points of the event, encouraging families to interact with the environment and share their experience through social media.

From Station to Sensation
The integration of storytelling, environmental design, and multimedia elements transformed the Mt. Rainier Scenic Railroad depot into a fully immersive holiday destination.
The new audio experience created a cohesive narrative atmosphere throughout the space, setting the tone for the event and helping guests feel as though they had stepped into the operational hub of the Claus family’s magical railway network.
The scenic installations and story-driven design details encouraged guests to explore the depot environment more deeply, spending time interacting with displays, discovering narrative elements, and capturing moments throughout the space.
The interactive steam engine installation became one of the most recognizable and widely shared elements of the experience. Families gathered around the attraction-style photo moment, generating organic social media engagement and helping extend the reach of the event beyond the physical location.
Overall, the experience generated record attendance and increased guest dwell time by encouraging exploration of interactive installations, exploring the story world, and sharing their experiences with others.
Reflecting on the project, I’m proud of how storytelling, design, and technology came together to transform a traditional seasonal train event into an immersive holiday experience. By combining original intellectual property with environmental storytelling and interactive design, Christmas With The Clauses demonstrated how a live seasonal attraction can evolve into a scalable narrative experience that encourages repeat visitation and deeper audience connection.
